Venis' owner, Robert B. Taylor, paid for her housing which allowed her to live separate from his property, and to her own lot outside of the town of Athens.
Partial Transcript: "The following named slaves were agree upon by the Board as the several amounts required of their masters, employers or guardians, to be [paid] into Treasury as licenses for said privilege, or otherwise, to remove them to their own lots or outside of the corporation of the town of Athens immediately:
R. D. B. Taylor's old woman, Venis, $5."
